Student Ambassadors
Student Ambassador Program
Somerset Community College Student Ambassadors represent and promote the college at campus and community events, assist with recruiting efforts, campus tours and provide information about SCC to prospective students, school groups and the general public.
Criteria
- 3.00 GPA
- Currently enrolled at SCC as a full time or part time student
- A genuine interest in assisting others
- Positive attitude and enthusiasm
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Good work ethic
Responsibilities
- Educate prospective students, school groups and the general public on the programs, resources and student life at SCC
- Represent SCC in a responsible, ethical and professional manner.
- Project a positive image of the college
- Conduct tours for individuals and groups
- Represent SCC at campus and community events
- Share first-hand information about your college experience and provide accurate and useful information to new students to assist them in transitioning into college
- Encourage fellow students to complete their educational goals
- Work 40 hours each semester
Benefits for Students
- Students will be required to work 40 hours per semester and as compensation will receive a 6 hour tuition waiver for each semester.
- Will receive training in areas such as professional etiquette, leadership, knowledge of SCC, communication skills and customer service
- Through their role as an Ambassador students will have the opportunity to network with leaders in the community and make wonderful contacts.
- Will be provided a uniform.

How to Apply
The college is currently accepting applications for ambassadors for the 2009-2010 school year. The deadline is April 15, 2009. Any SCC student interested in applying should complete this PDF application
and submit it to SCC Student Ambassador Coordinator Melissa Morrison. (This application may be submitted electronically by clicking the "submit" button at the end of the form, or you may print and return the form to Melissa Morrison.) She can be e-mailed at Melissa.morrison@kctcs.edu or call her at 606 451 6657. Her office is located in Room 128 in the Harold Rogers Student Commons.

“When I hear the term, ‘Student Ambassador,’ the first word that comes to mind is, ‘opportunity.’ Holding this prestigious position has helped me develop better communication skills, improved my organizational techniques and punctuality, and has given me opportunities to use my goal-oriented spirit to meet new challenges. The Ambassador program illuminates the abilities of its delegates—it truly opens doors. By utilizing the skills I have developed while serving as a Student Ambassador, I was crowned Miss Berea Area 2009. Given that the Interview category was 35% of the overall score in the pageant, I believe there is no better preparation for success in the Miss Kentucky arena than serving as an SCC Student Ambassador. The benefits gained from this preparation are not limited to the pageant setting. These benefits may also apply to the job market, to furthering one’s education, and to general communication skills in any field one chooses. I hope to represent our area well in the Miss Kentucky Pageant this summer, and I will owe a debt of gratitude to the Student Ambassador Program at SCC.”
