Training Resources

Company Funding for Training

The Office of Community, Workforce, and Economic Development works with Business and Industry to obtain funding to reduce the company’s training cost. Two programs, designed specifically to assist with funding training, are KY WINS and Bluegrass State Skills Grant.  Both assist companies with paying for customized training that enhances the skills of their employees.

Through the KY WINS program, an eligible company would pay 25% of the training cost plus a 10% administrative fee. The KY WINS program would pay 75% of the training cost. For more detailed PowerPoint presentation regarding the KY WINS program, click here.

Through the Bluegrass State Skills Grant program, an eligible company may be reimbursed up to 50% of the training costs incurred for approved classes. For more detailed PowerPoint presentation, click here.

The Office of Community, Workforce, and Economic Development works with EKCEP to provide funding for counties in Eastern Kentucky.  For more detailed information, go to www.ekcep.org.

Student Funding for Training

For adults, who have been displaced due to a company moving overseas, the Office of Community, Workforce, and Economic Development works with the Lake Cumberland ADD to provide training programs to help them obtain new skills necessary to gain employment with a new company.

One example is the Workplace Essentials program.  As use of the computer is required in most all work environments, this program is designed to teach students not only use of the computer, but also different software packages (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.).  Also included are components in both Job Readiness and Communication Skills, and a job-shadowing program to expose the student to actual work environments and experiences.  This program is usually delivered in a 32-week format; however, it can be tailored to fit the needs of the company or employer.

For more detailed information about eligibility and for applying for the program, contact LCADD at www.lcadd.org/cumberlandsworkforce.

Other Training

Fire Rescue Training – Courses delivered throughout the state to meet the training needs of fire/rescue and other emergency service personnel and to provide health and safety training programs for industries, institutions, and government agencies.
