Somerset Community College Surgical Technology Program awarded additional 10-year accreditation
Somerset Community College received word on May 18, 2009 that the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs [CAAHEP] has voted to award continuing accreditation to SCC’s Surgical Technology Program.
The accreditation is for ten years or until 2019. Accreditation is a significant achievement and means that students and the public can be confident that the Surgical Technology Program at Somerset Community College meets the highest standards in education and that class credit awarded by SCC will transfer to Kentucky four-year colleges. All eight of the current health care career training programs at SCC are accredited.
SCC Allied Health Division chair Margy Blakenship said, “I am aware of the many hours that Tammy Watters and Doug Massey have invested over the past months to address CAAHEP accreditation criteria with reports and documentation. I am extremely pleased to receive the letter stating that their efforts have been rewarded with continuing accreditation for an additional 10 years until 2019.”
Watters is an instructor in the SCC Surgical Technology Program, while Massey is an Assistant Professor of Surgical Technology.
