Do You Hear the People Sing? from the musical Les Miserables to highlight SCC’s “A Taste of Broadway” on Saturday, October 25
SCC’s College Chorus and Vocal Ensemble and the Somerset Community Choir are pleased to present A Taste of Broadway Saturday, October 25, at 7:30 p.m. in the Meece Auditorium on SCC’s Somerset Campus North.
The evening will feature a brand new repertoire of Broadway choruses, solos, duets and trios. Also featured will be desserts and beverages.
Highlights include music from West Side Story, Mamma Mia!, Rent, Les Miserables, The Sound of Music, South Pacific, The Music Man, My Fair Lady, and other great Broadway musicals.
Selections from Les Miserables include Do You Hear the People Sing? As in the musical, this great piece is rousingly performed in the first half and gorgeously reprised in the finale.
From the Broadway musical Rent, the choir is performing Seasons of Love. This beautiful song poignantly poses the question of how a person’s life should be measured. The answer: in love.
In addition to an evening of Broadway music and desserts, a silent auction will take place during intermission. All proceeds from the auction go towards SCC Vocal Ensemble’s trip to The International Days of Choral Music held last year in Verona, Italy. In March of 2008, Vocal Ensemble returned from the festival with SCC’s second international bronze trophy.
Tickets, which include admission and food and beverages, are $10.00. As seating is limited and historically sells out, it is suggested to obtain advance tickets.
Advance tickets can be purchased at Heritage Christian Bookstore on Sallee Street; First Christian Church Office, 1115 N. Hwy 39; or at SCC’s Box Office, located in Stoner Hall, Room 107, on the north campus. Only cash and checks are accepted. Please make checks payable to SCC Choral Association. For more information, please call the Box Office at (606) 451-6766.
“We cordially invite you to be a part of this wonderful evening,” said SCC Music Director Bob Hekel.
