SCC to host Transfer Marathon in Pulaski, Laurel, McCreary, Clinton and Russell Counties on Nov. 17-19

Somerset Community College will be holding a three-day marathon to assist students who plan to transfer to a four-year college or university. The event will be held beginning on Monday, Nov. 17 at 10 a.m. in the Harold Rogers Student Commons’ Citizens Bank Community Room. There is no charge for admission and the public, including high school students and their parents are welcome to attend.

Staff from eleven area four-year colleges will be on hand to assist students and others with their questions concerning each college.

“Anyone who thinks they might like transfer to a four-year college after
graduation from SCC should take advantage of this opportunity,” said Roger Hollars, an SCC student affairs counselor. “And parents of high school students might also find this opportunity to speak to people from a number of four-year colleges and universities.”

A list of colleges and universities planning to participate include: Eastern Kentucky University, Western Kentucky University, WKU Glasgow Campus, the University of Kentucky, Union College, Morehead State College, the University of the Cumberlands, Midway College, Campbellsville University, Northern Kentucky University, and Indiana Wesleyan University.

Representatives of the colleges will be at the SCC Student Commons, located on the SCC Somerset Campus North, beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 17 until 1 p.m. From there they will travel to the SCC Clinton Center in Clinton County, where they will be available from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (Central Standard Time –CST).

On Tuesday, Nov. 18, the group will again be available at the SCC Student Commons from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Transfer Marathon will then move on to the SCC Russell Center in Russell County from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. (CST).

Wednesday, the marathon will begin at the Laurel Campus of SCC, which is located in London. The advisors will be available from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the new SCC Transfer Center, located in Building #1 on the SCC Laurel Campus North. From London, the group will travel to the SCC McCreary Campus, which is located near Whitley City in McCreary County. The hours there will be from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“Normally, we don’t have this many colleges willing to travel to our centers in McCreary, Russell and Clinton Counties,” Hollars explained. “I hope everyone will take advantage of this opportunity.”

“Those interested in taking online classes should also come and talk to
these college representatives,” Hollars added.
