SCC accepting submissions for “Winter Shorts Film Festival” on Jan. 24

Somerset Community College Theatre’s Digital Video Productions is accepting entries for the first “Winter Shorts Film Festival.” All genres of films of no more than ten minutes in length will be considered for screening at the Festival. The event is designed to showcase aspiring filmmakers of all ages from across the United States.

A panel of judges will select the outstanding submissions, from the short films submitted, to be viewed at the Festival. The event will be held on the campus of Somerset Community College on Saturday, January 24, 2009. Deadline for submissions is November 21, 2008.
SCC Theatre Coordinator, Steve Cleberg, urges experienced and novice filmmakers alike to submit short film project to the festival. “We’re looking for a variety of short films from our local filmmakers.” Cleberg stated, “I want to encourage the prolific filmmaking activity that’s been taking place in the Somerset area.” This will be the third film festival that the College’s Theatre program has hosted in the last twelve months. SCC’s 48 Hour Film Festival has had two successful outings within the span of 2008.

The official selections will be screened before the general public in a day-long event that will include Question and Answer sessions with the filmmakers and filmmaking workshops for those in attendance. The event will culminate with an awards ceremony.

Awards will be given for “Best Film,” “Best Director,” “Outstanding Technical Accomplishment,” “Outstanding Creative Accomplishment,” “Best Original Screenplay,” “Best Leading Performance,” “Best Supporting Performance,” and “Best Ensemble Performance.”
